Rosa Mykyta-Chomsky

Rosa Mykyta-Chomsky is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Delaware, and a graduate assistant with the New Directions Early Head Start program. Rosa’s research interests are centered on the social-emotional development of K-2 students and specifically how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted social-emotional development. This interest stemmed from her experiences as a first grade teacher at a school serving a diverse African-American and immigrant community in West Philadelphia from 2019 through 2021, as well as from conversations with teachers from other schools. This comparative lens gave rise to questions about differences in schools responses to the pandemic, and how the experiences and social-emotional learning of students from different socio-economic groups were impacted by the pandemic, and the extent to which these impacts were mediated by institutional responses. She is also interested in the role learning mode during the pandemic (fully virtual, hybrid, in-person) may play in the future social-emotional learning outcomes of this cohort. Before her time as a teacher Rosa studied history and labor studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College.
