Global Opportunities
The Department of Human Development and Family Sciences is engaged in a variety of global collaborations including providing opportunities for student teaching and internships abroad, research partnerships, and international co-sponsored conferences. These various opportunities allow us to internationalize our curriculum and to educate the global citizen of tomorrow.
Study abroad opportunities are available for students in several countries. The department encourages students to widen their world view through study abroad trips, international research opportunities, international exchanges, and careers abroad.
International service-learning has an incredibly positive social and personal effect on student participants. Not only do our students learn about their new environment and the people with whom they interact, they also discover a lot about themselves. They develop an expanded personal perspective, improve problem-solving skills, and often a deeper appreciation for their own privilege.
Students in the Human Services major have the opportunity to complete their clinical capstone internship (400 hour placement) at the American Community School in Athens. Interns will work with the Dean of Students in a variety of student support activities that may include school counseling, the wellness center, working in the testing center, and providing college/academic advisement.
Early childhood education majors have the opportunity to complete a full-semester of student teaching abroad, through partnerships with highly recognized schools in Athens, Greece, and Seville, Spain.
HDFS is engaged in a variety of global collaborations which allow us to internationalize our curriculum and to educate the global citizen of tomorrow. We have formal partnerships with universities in Greece and China, and our faculty are invited to present in conferences across the world.
