College and University Awards
There are several College-level and University-level awards and scholarships for which students can apply. Please see the individual awards and scholarships for specific deadlines.
CEHD AWARDS: FINANCIAL NEED, SCHOLARSHIP, & SERVICE

Alumni Honors Day Book Award Awarded to a sophomore (28 – 59 credits) or a junior (60 – 89 credits) in each college who has a sincere desire for knowledge and has participated in extracurricular activities designed to help fellow students achieve academic success. Minimum index of 3.0. Gift certificate to Bookstore. Delaware Association for the Education of Young Children (DAEYC) Student Leadership Award A two year membership in a selected chapter of the Association for the Education of Young Children is awarded to the student who has shown leadership skills and contributed to the advancement of the goals of DAEYC. Susan McLaughlin Scholarship The Susan McLaughlin Scholarship is awarded annually to a student in CEHD who demonstrated outstanding character, motivation, discipline, and promise in the pursuit of their undergraduate degree. Past recipients continue to be eligible. Students with less than a 3.0 GPA are considered. Wallace H. Maw Scholarship Awarded ($1,000) to an undergraduate student majoring in either the Department of Human Development and Family Studies or School of Education. Criteria: Based on Academic merit and financial need.
INTERCOLLEGE AWARDS
Irma Ayers Scholar Award The Irma Ayers Scholar Award is an intercollege monetary award to a sophomore (28-59 credits) in the in the departments of FASH, HDFS, HRIM AND LEAD with the highest cumulative index for the first three semesters of enrollment at the University with a minimum of 9 credit hours in the College. Delaware Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Preprofessional/Graduate Award The purpose of this award is to recognize and promote commitment and leadership in the preprofessional/graduate student section of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Delaware Association of School Administrators Award (DASA) An award presented by the Delaware Association of School Administrators to a graduating senior in education who has demonstrated outstanding qualities of scholarship, leadership and character and gives promise of making a meaningful contribution to the teaching profession.
UNIVERSITY AWARDS
AAUP Undergraduate Student Award Each year, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) presents two undergraduate student awards to outstanding seniors who plan to attend graduate school in preparation for an academic career in university or college teaching or research. Each award is $2,000 and is to be used to defer expenses related to graduate school. Criteria: be in senior year, demonstrate outstanding academic work, exhibit a high level of involvement in campus life, have a commitment to a career in teaching and research in higher education, and have applied to graduate school. UNIVERSITY AWARDS for FEMALE STUDENTS
Mae Carter Scholarship A monetary ($1,500) award given in honor of Mae Carter, former Assistant Provost for Women’s Affairs and Executive Director of the Commission on the Status of Women. The scholarship recognizes an undergraduate woman student at the University who carries the values that Mae Carter has represented to the University community of women. Criteria: undergraduate woman student who has attended UD for at least 1 year, minimum GPA of 3.0, evidence of work to advance the status of women at the University. Preference is given to returning adult women (a woman student over 22 and entering college for the first time or returning after a period of time not attending college). Collins Award This monetary award ($500) was established to honor the former Dean of Women, Bessie B. Collins, and early advocate and supporter of continuing education for women. The award is given to a returning adult woman student who has demonstrated future promise, overcome special difficulties, and contributed to the University and greater community. Criteria: Over 22 years old, matriculated woman student, minimum GPA of 3.0, demonstration of future promise and evidence of overcoming special difficulties, and contribution to the University and greater communities. Geis Student Research on Women Conference and Award The Geis Student Research on Women Conference, sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program is a program designed to recognize student excellence in research. The Conference is open to all current graduate and undergraduate students, female and male, at the twelve member institutions of the Greater Philadelphia Women’s Studies Consortium. Acceptance to present at the conference will be based on excellence and relevance of the research to women and/or gender issues. All papers accepted for the conference are entered into the competition for the Geis Student Research Award. First place awards are $200, and second place awards are $150 in both graduate and undergraduate divisions. Application deadline in Spring. AAUW Award – Newark Branch The Newark Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) invites students to apply for its annual $500 award to an outstanding senior woman. Criteria: academic achievement (minimum GPA of 3.25), leadership in volunteer service on campus and the greater Newark area/home community. Application deadlines are in March.
