Mark Miller
Mark is currently a Ph.D. Candidate for Human Development & Family Sciences at the University of Delaware’s College of Education & Human Development and a Graduate Assistant with the Delaware-Positive Behavior Supports Project within the Center for Disabilities Studies. Prior to coming to the University of Delaware, Mark worked as an Elementary & Middle School Counselor in Philadelphia for 3 years & in Raleigh for 1 year. Along with this, Mark also worked part-time as a Child & Adolescent Mental Health Professional for 4 ½ years at The Center for Autism in Philadelphia. His research interests broadly focus on how culturally responsive approaches in schools & local mental health agencies can support the social-emotional and moral development for youth at-risk or involved with Alternative Education Settings & the Juvenile Justice system.
Research Project Experience
- Graduate Research Assistant, Center for Mental Health in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, (May 2016-May 2017)
- Assisted with administering the Mullen Scales of Early Learning and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) assessments for children between 3-5 years old participating in the Maximizing the Outcomes for Children with Autism (MOCA) research study
- Scored, and analyzed the Adaptive Behavior Assessment System, Social Skills Improvement System and Social Communication questionnaire within SPSS
- Coded the Developmental Play Assessment videos and conducted treatment interviews with parents to learn more about their child’s services and providers
- Undergraduate Research Assistant, Dr. Kurtz’s Psychological Assessment Lab at Villanova University (September 2013-May 2014)
- Assisted supporting a study that evaluated critical thinking skills of upperclassmen students vs. lowerclassmen students in college
- Administered the Shipley 2 and Watson-Glaser intelligence tests to study participants
- Scored, coded, and analyzed a variety of psychological tests, including the PAI and the NEO-PI-R, into the SPSS software
