Human Services Internships Abroad
Greece
Students in the human services major have the opportunity to study abroad in Athens, Greece during one semester of their final year in the major. Athens is the capital and largest city in Greece, with history dating back to thousands of years. The city is home to the Acropolis, the Parthenon, and many impressive museums.
Students will complete the clinical capstone internship (400 hour placement) at the American Community School (ACS) in Athens. ACS is a student-centered international school, embracing American educational philosophy, principles and values. The student body represents over 60 countries and is very culturally diverse. Interns will work with the Dean of Students at American Community School in Athens in a variety of student support activities that could include school counseling (elementary or middle school level), the wellness center, working in the testing center, providing college/academic advisement, or working with the “dogs in learning” program (which focuses on empathy and responsibility in math and literacy). In addition, students have the opportunity to engage in “community service activities” such as working with refugees, feeding the homeless at night or visiting the homes of the elderly.
